Varieties of Pellet Mill Dies

Pellet mill dies are a very important part of the process that eventually produces pellets and should be an important component of pellet mill plan. These dies have a great role as they are able to determine the quality, reliability, energy consumption, productivity as well as the product efficiency of the pellets. In a sense the pellet mill dies are the ones that form the raw materials into the shape of the pellet.

The process that the raw material goes through to become a pellet involves its compression between the pellet mill die and the roller which leaves some raw material onto the surface of the die that has holes.  When the raw material is being compressed it generates heat as well as pressure so that the pellets that are produced are of good quality. The holes on the pellet mill dies also play a major role in determining the size of the pellets that will be sold in the market.

Pellet mill dies are available in different varieties with the most common ones being ring die as well as flat die. Flat die which is the most common was the first to be used and was converted from being used in food production to the processing of raw materials that produce pellets made of wood. The design of this pellet mill die is very simple and is usually used by those who produce pellets at a smaller scale.  Furthermore, the features of the flat die used in pellet mills is that it is placed horizontally and has rollers that are in a set that provide vertical pressure on the die’s surface.

Another type of pellet mill dies is the ring die which is the more modern of the two. This pellet mill die is used in industries that produce pellets made of wood as well as those ones that are involved in the production of pellet plants that are used as animal feed. The ring die as its name suggest is in the shape of a ring and is placed vertically with rollers providing force on its inner side so that the material can be compressed outside the ring.
