Using a Homemade Pellet Mill

If you happen to have a homemade pellet mill, it means that you are among the luckiest persons. This is because you can easily make your own pellets in the comfort of your home. It is important to note that the idea of manufacturing or making pellets such as wood or biomass pellets is very straightforward. However, you need to have a recipe ready just like baking a cake. For you to be able to produce high quality pellets, it is important to know how to use the homemade pellet mill. Remember, it is always said, practice makes perfect and if you practice making the pellets on daily basis, you will perfect your skills.

There are some things that you need to do when using this machine. The first one is to take the raw materials that you will be using such as wood. If they are large enough, it is important for you to reduce them into small chips. Use a hammer mill to reduce the chips into sawdust. All the sawdust that you have gotten will be required to be moved somewhere for drying.  You can move the sawdust manually or simply using a conveyor is you have one.

Let the sawdust dry according to the recipe that you have. The moisture inside the sawdust should completely be removed in order to make high quality pellets. Once it is dry, mix it together for you to achieve some uniformity by getting rid of any particles or clumps that were created during the process of drying the sawdust.  It is important to use the right equipment to do this in order to achieve the best results.

Ensure that you are assessing your homemade pellet mill as this goes on according to your pellet recipe. Since the mill has a conditioning reservoir which serves as a mixing unit, ensure that you follow all the mixing up to the end. Ensure that you take time now and then to access the condition of the sawdust and once done, you can press it easily via the pellet mill. Remember, the sawdust is supposed to be in a slurry form where the roller will be used to push it through the holes.

All you have to don is to take the initiative of separating the pellets by simply passing them through a screen. As you do this, they should have an even size and shape just the way your pellet recipe states. Leave them to cool before using them.
